Close but no cigar as the saying goes. St. Paul lost to Hope Black and Blue Sport Ministries by identical scores of 11-12. That makes 3 loses by a total of 4 runs, and a one run victory. So all games decided by a total of 5 runs. Close games but …Almost half the total runs in each game have been scored in the first inning. On May 30 both Hope Black and St. Paul scored 5 times in the first inning. The each scored one in the second. Hope charged ahead for an 11-6 lead after 5 innings. Hope scored once and St. Paul 3 times in the 6th to make it 12-9. In the 7th St. Paul scored twice but could not get that tying or winning run over the plate. James Wagner was 4 for 5 with a double and 3 RBI’s while almost everyone else had 2 hits. Next game, June 6, first inning Blue Sport 4, St. Paul 5. St. Paul built a 9-4 lead before Blue Sport scored 5 in the 4th to tie. St. Paul scored once to regain a 10-9 lead. Blue Sport added 3 in the 5th to make it 12-10. But while they were held scoreless the last two innings, St. Paul could only garner a single run in the bottom or the 7th for a final of 11-12, AGAIN. Travis Alexander and Sean Behm each went 4 for 4 while 4 others chipped in with a pair of hits. The big blow in the first inning was a 3 run Home Run by James Wagner. The first 5 St. Paul batters hot hits and scored in that first inning. St. Paul is now 1-3 for the season. Next week’s game will be at Telfer at 6:30 against Berean Baptist.
