The OWLS group listened to an enthusiastic Tammy DeGarmo speak of Project 16:49 and its impact in the Beloit/Janesville area. Project 16:49 mission is to “Empower Rock County’s unaccompanied homeless youth to take action to achieve their goals.”

Project 16:49 is relatively new, initiated within the last year or two. The significance of its name is that 16 hours and 49 minutes is the time between school ending one day and starting the next. This program assists students identified as homeless, i.e. living without a parent or guardian. The program gives guidance and support to these students to remain in school, graduate and become self-sufficient adults.

The Robin House, located in Beloit, currently is housing 3 female students and plans to house a total of 7. Plans are to establish a similar house in Janesville for male students. For further information visit their website:

The OWLS group gave their total donations collected this month to Project 16:49. In addition Roger Neitzel on behalf of St. Paul congregation presented a Mission Outreach check to Tammy and Project 16:49.

Next Month:
The next OWLS meeting will be on Thursday, April 24 at noon. The group will be having a “Game Day” after lunch. So bring your cards, cribbage boards, etc.
