The Rock edged St. Paul in the first game of the season 11-7. Andy Peterson led St.Paul with 3 hits while Andy and Jim Neitzel each collected 3 RBI’s each.
St. Paul recovered from a 9-7 deficit to edge Hope Gold in their second league game by a score of 11-9 evening their record at 1-1. Dan Fiese was perfect at the plate going 4 for 4 and Jaron Bertelsen was 3 for 3. Each scored 3 runs and Dan had 3 RBI’s.
St. Paul played a double header that second night and lost to Central Christian
17-6. Sean Behm and Jaron Bertelsen each were 3 for 3 with Sean collecting 3 RBI’s.
On May 18th St. Paul played an exciting game against Hope Black. St. Paul was down 5-3 after 6 innings but scored twice in the top of the 7th to tie the score 5-5. After a scoreless 8th, St. Paul scored one in the top of the 9th, only to see Hope Black come back and score two in the bottom of the 9th for a walk off win. Mike Ryberg led St. Paul going 5 for 5, while Dan Fiese and Jim Neitzel each added 4 hits apiece.
St. Paul’s 5th game was against 1st AOG on 5-25-17. With the score 1-1 after 2 innings, St. Paul exploded for 5 runs in the third inning for a 6-2 lead. They added 2 more in the 4th and one in the 5th for a comfortable lead of 9-2. AOG was able to score 2 in the 7th but St. Paul shut the door for a 9-4 win. Jim Neitzel, Brad Thompson, Dan Fiese and Allen McKillips all collected 3 hits for St. Paul. Dan drove in 3 of the runs.
Leading hitters after 5 games with an over .700 batting average are Jaron Bertelsen, Mike Ryberg, Jim Neitzel, and Dan Fiese.
